Social Responsibility and Outreach Program

The SDEAS Social Responsibility and Outreach Program (SROP) provide opportunities for SDEAS students to develop social awareness, concern for the environment, country, and others through volunteerism and service to marginalized communities.

Volunteering Opportunities

For the Kids

Each year, Benilde SDEAS partners with the De La Salle University’s Center for Social Concern and Action (COSCA) to facilitate a specialized mini-olympics for children with disabilities studying in various SPED centers within Luzon. SDEAS students and associates provide volunteer service in this activity and strive to to boost the morale of children with disabilities as they participate in friendly sports competitions.

Mga Kwento ng Aming Mga Kamay

Student volunteers of Benilde SDEAS conduct storytelling sessions for deaf children studying in public schools in order to promote reading as a habit; to spark interest in visual arts and to encourage the use of Filipino Sign Language.

Brigada Eskwela

The National Schools Maintenance Week also known as the “Brigada Eskwela” is the Department of Education’s annual activity that brings together everyone in the school community – including the private sector – to prepare schools for the opening of the classes. Each year, Benilde SDEAS partners with public schools to provide them with the necessary assistance during Brigada Eskwela.

Deaf for Kids Day

SDEAS students serve as big sisters and brothers to young Deaf students from different schools who visit Benilde SDEAS to learn more about Benildean culture and to get a glimpse of how college life is like for the Deaf.

Benilde Deaf in Action (SDEAS Caravan)

The Benildean Deaf in Action or SDEAS Caravan challenges students of the Bacheor in Applied Deaf Studies Program to put their learnings into action as they respond the needs of SDEAS’ partner institutions by developing advocacy materials, conducting Deaf awareness sessions, and teaching basic Filipino Sign Language.

Summer of Service

Through the Benilde Center for Social Action’s Summer of Service (SOS), SDEAS students are exposed to societal issues at the grassroots level as they do community service work with a particular partner community. Ultimately, SOS aims to develop a greater sense of social awareness and responsibility among Benildean student volunteers.

Deaf and Hearing Camp

Through the Stairway Foundation Inc.’s Break the Silence Project, SDEAS students are able to participate in an annual summer camp with deaf and hearing students from other schools and organizations. This youth camp allows participants to exchange knowledge about child sexual abuse prevention, Deaf identity, sustainable living, and other relevant social issues.

SDEAS Family Day

Each year, families of SDEAS students and members of the SDEAS community gather through the SDEAS Family Day to celebrate each family member’s role in the education and formation of a Deaf individual.

The Benilde Green Project

Through the Benilde Green Project, Deaf Benildeans who participated in Stairway Foundation Inc.’s Deaf and Hearing Camp are able to apply their learnings about sustainability as they promote awareness of identified environmental issues to the CSB community and the general public. This project hopes to empower young Deaf leaders who care for the environment and make concrete actions to save the Earth.
